Introduction to Digital Photography, CAN

Small Class Sizes To Enhance Learning

Based in Canberra, he will join up to only 4 others in this intimate & hands-on class environment, learning how to take great shots while learning all about how to use his own personal camera. Great for beginners, he will finish confident & ready to snap!

Digital cameras have come a long way in recent years, the quality of the photos from a device that can be held in the palm of one hand are becoming increasingly amazing. For the budding photography guy, our Introduction to Digital Photogaphy experience is the perfect opportunity for him to learn all about his very own camera – gaining invaluable skills to take the perfect shots every time. The course focusses on holistic learning, so there is no more confusion when trying to teach himself through that instruction booklet!

Our experience is located in Canberra, and is hosted by a passionate and experienced photography teacher. The lessons are small – with only a maximum of 5, so each person in the lesson gets the best learning experience. Covering many different commonly misunderstood problems with using digital cameras, the interactive workshop focuses on issues such as, why the subject comes up as light or dark; why the background sometimes appears fuzzy and soft, or sometimes super sharp; why the focus function will select something we don’t want to shoot; and much more. Through explanation and practice, he will learn to control the functions, and understand why they happen.

Concepts and skills covered in the course:

- Exposure – what it means and does

- What the camera’s shutter speed and aperture does to control the light needed to take a photo

- Understanding what different shutter speeds and aperture selections do

- Skills for perfect focussing

- The difference between the A or Av, S or Tv, M, P and the fully automatic modes of cameras

- ISO settings – what they mean, what they are for, and their implications

- Look at ‘white balance’ and its importance

The structure of the class is broken down into alternating between demonstrations, discussions, and practice – ensuring a range of different teaching methods to allow students to truly grasp their new skills. By creating a greater space for learning capacity through practical application, a better understanding occurs, and by keeping the classes to a maximum of 5, there is ample opportunity for one-on-one assistance, and the chance to discuss important issues. At the end of the class, all students will have their photos taken throughout reviewed, each being given constructive feedback.

The ideal gift idea for that guy interested in photography – who can be an absolute beginner, or just needing some extra help to learn all about his new camera. He must bring along his own digital camera, and it is a good idea to ensure it has enough charge to last the lesson. Men’s Gift Store experience vouchers are redeemable directly with the experience provider with full details provided upon purchase. Recipients have 3 years to use the full value of the voucher.
